The Shoshone National Forest

The Shoshone National Forest was an experience like no other. Eric and I were blown away by the magnificent colors and boundless terrain. In one word, Shoshone was astounding. Shoshone made me forget we just experienced West Yellowstone, which was far from a let down, as seen in my previous blog: A Drive to Remember.

I’m going to let the pictures do the talking here. Enjoy the ride through Shoshone National Forest.

The Garden of Eden

While not it’s official name, this place could be in the running for my personal Eden. I loved it so much, I couldn’t even figure out which photo to post, so I posted them all. This area is absolutely stunning and without a doubt makes our list of ‘places to come back and spend more time exploring’.

It was really all so breathtaking! It’s difficult to produce words for something this magnificent.

Another van lifer looking for their piece of heaven.

What do we have here? Possibility!

This area was just too pristine to pass up! Eric and I located a FS road leading out towards this beauty and had the wild idea of trying to make our way up there. It’s hard to tell from the photos, but it’s a significant increase in elevation within a very short distance.

So, we climbed.

And climbed.

But, in the end we were denied. The road got steeper, rockier, and just impossible to get a fully loaded van with no 4×4 up it. So, we turned around very carefully to avoid a tragic fall of an incredibly steep cliff and down we went. Not a bad view from this angle either (as seen in photo below).

Of course we were slightly disappointed this area didn’t pan out, but we had hopes there were more to come. Let’s just say that having patience paid off in the end. I’m glad we didn’t force it, because we spent the evening in another type of paradise!

Never underestimate a boring looking road to nowhere!
Those roads lead to good things!
Needless to say we found our spot for the night. View to the back.

The view to the left was also stunning, but the sun was so bright, it was difficult to get a photo. But 3 out of 4 fabulous views is not too shaby.

The Sunset

Now, this is quickly becoming my favorite time of the day! We keep finding these magnificent spots and it’s spoiling us quickly!

and of course, my favorite photo once again…

Van Life

Eric and I are thoroughly enjoying van life this time around.

Life has a funny way of working out even in the midst of uncertain, stressful times. We’ve had zero regrets about our decision to live our dream.

Initially, we thought Covid-19 both ruined and ruled our lives, but in fact, the pandemic saved us from a life we had tried to break free of for the last 5+ years.

Van life is the ultimate social distancing tool. We’ve been extremely cautious when going into town for re-supply, but most often spend 99.9% of our time away from all civilization. We couldn’t be happier or healthier. I hope it stays that way, but if not, at least we pursued the life we worked so hard to achieve. Nothing beats going out on your own terms!

Thanks for reading.

Until next time friends!
